Apple cake

Apple cake is certainly very popular and loved by everyone in Albania. Here is our easy and delicious recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups diced apples 
  • ½ cup softened butter 
  • 2 cups white or brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ t salt
  • 1 T baking soda
  • 1 T cinnamon
  • 1 t vanilla 
  • 1 cup dried nuts or raisins
  • 3 whole apples, sliced

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the diced apples, butter, and sugar. Stir in the beaten eggs.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon. Add the dry mixture to the apple mixture, and stir to combine. Stir in the vanilla and the nuts or raisins. 

Pour the batter evenly into a baking pan and lay the apple slices over the batter to create a decorative design (try laying the slices in overlapping circles to create a simple yet lovely round pattern).

Bake in a 375°F oven for about 45 minutes, or until a toothpick poked in the center of the cake comes out clean.
